Martyaz released an EP of his new project, Martyazz Ensemble at Bar Gumbo, Byres Road, Glasgow June 2013, during the Jazz Festival. This is was also the debut concert of the ensemble, and featured top German jazz/soul singer Anja Ritterbusch and MC music producer Matt Quest – who both also appear on the EP.

 

The EP release showcased three original compositions by Martyaz, which were performed live by the Martyaz Ensemble at the Jazz oriented venue, Bar Gumbo. The 13 piece line up included a classical string quartet, a three part horn section, with MC Matt Quest and Anja Ritterbusch. As well as tracks from the EP the whole ensemble performed an arrangement by Martyaz of jazz soul legend Roy Ayers’ “Everybody Loves the Sunlight”. 

 

The Martyazz Ensemble in its entirety went on to perform tracks from the EP at a number of dates in that year including Doune the Rabbithole Festival.

 

In April 2014 the core members of the ensemble went over to Czech Republic completing an 7 venue tour in 8 days, selling out Jazz Club Teplice, and making Jazz Republic, Prague, a weekend hotspot. They also played to a packed audience in the legendary Jazz bar U Maleho Glenna.
